“We believe a diverse workforce brings unique experiences that help make our company stronger. No matter who you are or where you come from, Aussie Broadband will always be a safe place to come and be respected.” Aussie Broadband Company Statement.

Today, Aussie Broadband was presented with a lovely gift from the Gippsland Pride Initiative for its support over the last 12 months. This was a special moment.

Our Chief Technical Officer, John Reisinger, and General Manager of Service Delivery, Leigh Markham, received a framed Gippsland Ranges Roller Derby Jersey on behalf of the company.

During the presentation, I realised how proud (and lucky!) I am to work for a company that cares about diversity and inclusion. I mean seriously cares. Our staff are about as diverse as it gets. They come from all sorts of backgrounds, gender identity, sexual orientation and abilities.

The welcoming and inclusive environment here is genuine. I know. Because I’ve experienced it firsthand. Last year, I made the decision to come out. This was a time of massive change for me. A few months later, I started working at Aussie Broadband. It was then, that I felt I could finally start being myself.

Seeing the Rainbow Flag outside our office as I walk into work each day is such a brilliant feeling. I can’t describe it.

I’ve had nothing but total support from my colleagues, management and the leadership team. I’m also able to play an active role in the business as an advocate for the LGBTIQ community.

As a member of the board for the Gippsland Pride Initiative, I also give support to the LGBTIQ community in Gippsland. We’ve just finished drawing up our strategic plan for the next 12 months. Our message is simple: we want to learn together and help make our community, sporting clubs and businesses more inclusive. We believe that change has to begin with understanding and we should celebrate our differences and what makes everyone unique.

There’s always more to do, but the willingness across Aussie to give staff a voice and encourage action on diversity issues is refreshing. Thank you, Aussie, for letting us be ourselves.
