Frequently asked questions about our small business nbn™ plans

Are there connection fees or charges?

We do not have any standard connection fees for our nbn™ services. If you are in a new development area or opt to have a new line connected* you may be liable for an additional charge as dictated by the nbn™. This will be displayed before confirming your order.

*We recommend every FTTN customer connects on a new line to avoid any down time, so you will be able to keep you existing phone and internet services running at the same time until you decide to move over to the nbn™ in your own time.

Will my business phone work on the nbn™?

The majority of Australians will have to move their phone across to the nbn™ as the current infrastructure providing a fixed phone service will be switched off 18 month after the nbn™ becomes available. You will still be able to retain the same business phone number by porting it onto our new business phone plans but will be required to connect your phone handset via your modem.

Depending on the nbn™ technology you’re connected to, you may be able to keep your landline using the existing copper connection.

Our expert staff will be able to help you seamlessly transition your business phone services to the nbn™

What hardware do I need for the nbn™?

Depending on the location, nbn™ uses a mix of technologies to connect to the nbn™ broadband access network, the nbn™ Co may provide you with an nbn™ Network Termination Device at your business which has a number of (UNI-D) ports to connect data and phone services.

You may need a router if you need to connect multiple devices to the internet or if you require a wireless connection, we recommend checking with our expert staff if your current router will be compatible with the nbn™ network or if you will need to purchase a new one.

On top of your internet and phone services other devices that utilise a landline connection such as EFTPOS machines, security systems and fire indicator panels may need to be switched to the nbn™ network. We would recommend speaking to the provider of these services to determine if they are nbn™ compatible and if you need to move them to the nbn™ network.

How does the nbn™ installation work?

If there has been a previous nbn™ connection at your premises the standard time frame is 1-5 business days and there will be no additional work required by a technician. If your address has not been connected to nbn™ before the standard time frame can be anywhere up to 20 business days and is dependent on your nbn™ access technology type and technician availability. Depending on your nbn™ access technology, will determine the exact method of installation for your technician.

The nbn™Co technician may also need access to any communications room and/or main distribution frame if your premises has one.

For connections to premises that are already connected to the nbn™ via FTTN/B or HFC technology there may be a small period of downtime when switching providers. We would recommend having a second line connected to avoid any downtime with your service, so you will be able to keep existing phone and internet services running at the same time.

For connections to premises that are already connected to the nbn™ via FTTP or Fixed Wireless technology, another port on the already installed network termination device will be activated in addition to any other active ports, so there should be no down time.

For connections to premises that have not yet connected to the nbn™ via FTTN/B or HFC technology there may be a small period of downtime when connecting. For this would we recommend

For connections to premises that have not yet connected to the nbn™ via FTTP or Fixed Wireless technology, new infrastructure will be installed which will not interrupt your current service.

We offer a congestion-free network on our nbn™ services. The only way we are able to offer this now is by managing our bandwidth meticulously, which means including data caps on all our plans. You can read more about Aussie Broadband’s stance on unlimited plans in our blog.
