Being good to people in their time of need

The nbn™ has recently announced a $150 million COVID-19 relief and assistance package, which includes a range of initiatives to support the community during this difficult time. Approximately $50 million will be directed to helping internet providers support low-income households with school-aged children who do not currently have an active nbn™ connection at home.

How we can help

Aussie Broadband is supporting the nbn™ response package by providing a limited number of nbn™ broadband connections to low-income families who have school-age children and no current nbn™ connection.

Aussie Broadband will provide eligible families with access to the following plan;

  • nbn™ 25/5 plan at $0 until 16 January 2021 ($65 p/month from the 16 January 2021)
  • 500G Data limited (unlimited between 6 am to 6 pm local time until 15 January 2021)
  • Families must not have an active nbn™ connection.

Am I eligible?

To be eligible to receive support through this program, families must meet the following criteria;

  • Families who are currently receiving Family Tax Part A or B
  • Have a school-aged child living at their address

To ensure that this support makes it to those who need it the most, we are working with schools to assist with identifying those who need the support and organise the connections.

If you are a family that is eligible for this service, we ask that you contact your school to provide you with the required information to organise your connection. If your school has not received the communication from us, they can contact us on [email protected].

Please note: We’ll be assessing all applications with lists of eligible families provided by schools. If your application details do not match with details provided, we’ll be in contact to discuss your eligibility.

Is there anything else I need?

Depending on the status of the nbn™ connection at your property, an nbn™ technical appointment may be required

An nbn™ technician may need to come out to your address to connect the nbn™ to the property if there has been no previous nbn™ connection. The nbn™ provides these appointments free-of-charge. If your property is a new development, there may be a New Development Charge applicable.

An nbn™ compatible modem

You will require an appropriate modem to access the nbn™ inside your property. We provide Netcomm NF18ACV modems for an upfront payment of $149 (+$15 p&h). The modems are compatible with all connection types and come preconfigured, so all you need to do is plug it in!

You’re also welcome to BYO modem, but you will need to ensure that it is nbn™ compatible. If you need a hand configuring your BYO modem on the day of your connection, you can contact our customer service team who will talk you through the correct configuration.

Frequently asked questions about our COVID-19 Connectivity Relief Program

Do I have to enter my credit card details?

To be able to get this program up and running quickly, we’ve had to use our regular customer database – which means participants will be asked to enter the same details we ask all customers, including credit card details. We’re sorry there was no quick way around this.

However, our head office is within spitting distance of the now-defunct Hazelwood Mine in the Latrobe Valley, and we have a deep understanding of what financial distress means. We know asking for credit card details might cause anxiety.

Please rest assured that this program is free up until 15 January 2021 and we will communicate clearly a few weeks before the end – by email, and phone if necessary – to let participants know what their options are (for example, ceasing the service or moving onto a payment plan).

I am eligible for a connection, how do I organise to get connected?

We are working with schools to ensure we identify all the eligible families for this support, to ensure that those who need the support are able to access it. To get connected, get in touch with your school and they can confirm your details with us and organise your application connection.

What if my school doesn’t know anything about the program?

If your school has not received any information about the support package on offer through Aussie Broadband, ask them to contact [email protected] and we will send them the details of the program.

Why do I need to speak to my school before being connected?

At Aussie Broadband one of our values is to “be good to people”. As a part of this value we believe that a support package such as this should be provided to those who need it the most. We believe that working with schools is our way of ensuring we identify those families who need this the most.
