How Much Does Business nbn™️ Cost?

There are a wide variety of business nbn™️ services and plans for businesses that cover everything from those designed for small businesses right through to plans for the largest of enterprises. So when you’re considering nbn™ costs, the solution can become a far more complex answer than it might first seem. It’s easy with residential plans – as speeds go up, the cost of the plan escalates in kind. For business nbn™️, however, there are additional services, support, and other factors to also keep in mind.

The first consideration: speed

Of course speed is the first consideration with any nbn™️ plan, because if your Internet is running too slowly, your business is going to be inefficient and that’s going to cost money in the long term. Small business nbn™️ plans start at $79 for a 50/20 Mbps plan, and can escalate all the way to $429 for a 1000/400 Mbps service. That’s a great variance and you probably don’t want to be paying for 1000 Mbps unless you really need it.

Why might you need those kinds of speeds? The number of users is the big one. The more people that are using the Internet at the same time, and the more devices that are connected simultaneously, the more the overall available speed “splits.” For example, One device using a 50 Mbps connection has access to the full 50 Mbps. However, five devices on the same connection might be able to only access 10 Mbps.

There’s a useful “baseline” speed calculation that you can make. Count up the number of devices that will be on the Internet at any time in your business, and then look below for a rough guide as to how much bandwidth is recommended so that none of those devices needs to experience a slowdown:

  • 5 to 10: Up to 75Mbps
  • 10 to 15: Up to 150 Mbps
  • 15 to 20: Up to 250 Mbps
  • 20 to 30: Up to 500 Mbps

The second consideration: What support do you need?

Regardless of your business size, you need a good support package in place to ensure your connection is reliable. The last thing you want is to have a bad nbn™ connection when your business relies on using the internet to communicate with customers or fulfill orders.

A basic support package for a business is an 8am – midnight support line and “best effort” when it comes to downtime support. Higher “tiers” of support, however – Silver and Gold – come with a minimum guarantee uptime (99% or better), meaning that Aussie Broadband will be liable for costs should your Internet be down for more than a couple of hours over the course of a month.

Aussie Broadband offers four levels of business nbn™ support packages:

  1. Basic at a total cost of $109 per month
  2. Bronze at a total cost of $151.9 per month
  3. Silver at a total cost of $219 per month
  4. Gold at a total cost of $329 per month

For businesses that rely on the Internet for their entire operation, the premium cost on these support packages are worth the peace of mind knowing that you’ll never go without an Internet connection.

The third consideration: Additional services

For a small additional cost on the Internet bill, Aussie Broadband can also deliver your business additional services. For example, phone services can be bundled into the Internet bill for between $0/month (with 15c calls to phones, 22c calls to mobiles) and $10/month (with free calls). Another option might be a 4G mobile broadband solution so, in the event that the regular Internet connection does experience an outage, the 4G solution can kick in as a backup to keep the business online. This starts at $10 per month for 1GB of data allowance through to $65/month for a 60GB allowance.

You can also acquire a range of hardware solutions from your ISP, which generally come with an upfront cost. Routers, Switches, Access Points, Modems and Phone Systems can all be delivered as part of the plan to immediately be up and away with best-of-breed technology and a set-up that your ISP will help you to design.

This is why flexibility is important

A business’ needs change over time. Perhaps it is scaling up or down, taking to market new products, or looking to increase its presence on the Web. Whatever the reason, flexibility with the pricing of Internet services is key to the efficient use of the nbn™️. Having access to the kind of scalability that will allow the business to move to another type of plan, take on additional services, or even move between small business and enterprise services as needed is important in making sure that the business is only ever spending as much as it needs to to derive success from the Internet.

This means that it’s important that a business can trust its ISP to deliver honest and transparent advice and support on what is right for that business. One of the best ways to keep Internet costs down over time is to have a long-term ISP partner that takes a stake in the success of its customers.
