Tower-ing above: Everything you need to know about the Fixed Wireless upgrade
Written by Toby Beshara, Communications Officer and Aussie Broadband, Editorial team

What is Fixed Wireless?
Fixed Wireless is an NBN connection type that provides internet through an antenna on your roof that connects to a local Fixed Wireless tower. If you want to learn more about how Fixed Wireless works click here!
The Fixed Wireless upgrade
In 2022, NBN announced the Fixed Wireless upgrade project, investing $750 million into all parts of the Fixed Wireless network. Phase 1 of the project upgraded Fixed Wireless towers to offer higher bandwidth to each user, while letting more properties connect to a tower at once. This resulted in more consistency overall during peak periods.
This current phase – the second of the project - focuses on significantly increasing the speeds available. To make this possible, properties with Fixed Wireless can get access to a whole new suite of higher-speed plans or – if your NBN equipment is holding you back – let us know so we can organise an upgrade to future-proof your connection.
On top of this, the upgrade will bring Fixed Wireless to 120,000 more properties that would otherwise only have access to NBN Satellite.
Our new plans
With this upgrade comes two new Fixed Wireless plans, plus higher speeds for the existing Fixed Wireless Plus plan:
Fixed Wireless Plus - 100/20Mbps
Fixed Wireless Home Fast - 250/20Mbps
Fixed Wireless Superfast - 400/40Mbps
Am I eligible?
You might be eyeing your Fixed Wireless NBN box on the wall with suspicion – “That all sounds great, but can my NBN equipment handle the new speeds; are they even available in my area?”.
If you’re a current customer, our Customer Service team can let you know if you’re eligible to upgrade your NBN equipment for free. Just get in touch via LiveChat on our website or call 1300 880 905 (available 7 days a week from 8am until midnight AEST).
If you aren’t a customer yet, give our Sales team a call and they’ll organise your new service and let you know what upgrade options are available.
What speeds can my NBN equipment handle?
Depending on what NBN equipment you already have, you may not need an upgrade to enjoy the new speeds! Click here to see the different Fixed Wireless antennas and what speed they can achieve.
