Overview

Three questions to ask your customers to help them benefit the most from upcoming speed increases to NBN plans.

Faster NBN plans are arriving in September, delivering speed improvements for existing services, and new plans up to 2000Mbps on residential connections.

While these are welcome changes, they may bring a range of questions from end customers and provide opportunities for them to make the most of their NBN connectivity.

HST new plans

1. Does your plan meet your needs?

The new and improved download speeds may be catching all the headlines however upload speeds are just as essential for businesses and those working from home.

Cloud apps and video conferencing require higher upload speeds than many customers may consider.

Consider how many people and devices are connected at peak usage times. Will they each be using cloud connected apps, calling and file-sharing?

A plan with 50Mbps upload can quickly be maximised with 3-4 employees working at the same time.

2. Is the on-premises hardware suitable for higher speed tiers?

Many older routers may be capable receiving and delivering 1000Mbps locally over ethernet, but they may not be able to do the same over Wi-Fi.

It is important to consider the local hardware installed, number of devices connected and weigh up the pros and cons of new Wi-Fi 7 routers on the market compared to more affordable Wi-Fi 6 options.

If customers find their new speeds after September aren’t quite what they expected, an older router could be the culprit.

3. Is the location serviced by fibre?

The best time to initiate the fibre upgrade process is now.

The new NBN plans will deliver a generational speed bump for FTTP and HFC connections. Addresses serviced by FTTC and FTTN will not be receiving the bestowed speed increases.

By upgrading to fibre, end customers will unlock faster plans and a better connection technology type.

By upgrading to fibre with a business-grade NBN plan, end customers will have greater flexibility during the NTD installation process, faster upload capability and better support response times from NBN whenever required.

Any questions?

Further details on how the new plans will apply for services will be shared as we approach September.
