Latrobe Valley internet service provider Aussie Broadband has opened a second office in Morwell to accommodate its rapidly expanding team.

Managing Director Phillip Britt said that the company has experienced phenomenal growth after going national last year.

“In December 2016 we had about 70 staff in the company, and we thought that was big,” he said.

“This week, we’ve just reached 143 staff, and by the end of this financial year we anticipate we’ll be at somewhere between 220-240 staff.”

Aussie officially opened its second office in Hazelwood Drive this week as a home to its customer support call centre, marketing team and service delivery team.  Its original office is now home to its sales call centre, corporate support and network operations teams.

Guests included Latrobe City Mayor Cr Darrell White, Deputy Mayor Cr Dan Clancy, Cr Alan McFarlane, representatives from NBN, Latrobe Valley Authority and other local businesses and stakeholders.

Phil said Aussie Broadband is now signing up more than 2% of new NBN connections across Australia and is the only internet service provider outside the “Big Four” (Telstra, Optus, TPG and Vocus) to have completed a national NBN network rollout.

“Myself and my business partner, John Reisinger, started Aussie Broadband about 14 years ago in our lounge room because we felt regional areas deserved good broadband too,” he said.

“In 2016, it became obvious to us that with the NBN arriving, we would either have to get big or get out.  We chose to play a bigger game and go national.”

Phil attributed much of the company’s success to the Gippsland work ethic and common sense that staff bring to their roles.

“Our staff don’t work for Aussie Broadband, they ARE Aussie Broadband,” he said.  “They’re the reason we’re getting ratings like 4.6 on Product Review and winning awards like the telco industry’s Edison Award for Best Broadband Provider.

“The Latrobe Valley gets a bad rap much of the time, but there are great success stories here because of the tenacity of the people – and we’re one of them.”

He said most of the company’s job growth is in the area of customer and technical support, but there will also be regular roles over the next 12 months available in the sales call centre, service delivery, warehouse and other areas of the business.

“We’re going to be looking for great staff to help us grow,” he said.  “Primarily, we’re looking for people with the right attitude who can subscribe to our values, particularly our “no bull” philosophy, and with a passion for customer service.”

He said anyone who thinks they fit the bill should keep an eye out for job opportunities in coming months.
