Aussie Broadband opens new Perth warehouse alongside its call centre
Media Release | Monday, 30 May 2022 | 2 min read
Aussie Broadband has officially opened a new national warehouse in Perth, which helps to speed up delivery times by approximately 5 days.
The facility, which is already fully operational, allows the telco to distribute all of its Western Australia residential orders and hardware such as VoIP adapters, modems, and routers directly from Perth.
In 2021, the company opened its third call centre. The total complex now employs approximately 80 staff including customer support roles, management, HR and warehouse positions. The Perth location allows the company greater flexibility to provide customer service across Australia’s varying time zones, whilst still keeping jobs in the country.
Managing Director Phillip Britt said that the move will save the company significant time and money.
“This is good news for our residential customers in WA because it means we’re able to get their services set up much faster. It’s also cheaper to send items directly from the Perth warehouse to our customers in WA, rather than from our Morwell distribution centre in regional Victoria,” Phil said.
This new facility also serves as a continuity plan should anything happen to Aussie’s Morwell warehouse, which currently manages the majority of distribution and returns.
Warehouse Manager Stephen Lyons said the next step is to distribute business orders from the new centre.
“We’re scoping out future possibilities to see what is feasible from an operational standpoint,” Stephen said. “At the moment, all of our business orders and returns are handled from our Morwell location, but we’re looking to see whether we’ll be able to do these things over in Perth.”
Stephen set up the new warehouse remotely from regional Victoria. It is roughly the same size as Aussie’s Morwell warehouse, which is 1,200 square metres.
“It wasn’t an easy task getting the warehouse operational. We had to freight most of our inventory from Victoria to Perth, and manage the three-hour time difference when it came to setting things up,” said Stephen.
“There have been a lot of shipping delays over the past couple of years due to COVID, mainly with the rail network. Having a warehouse over in Perth allows us to avoid most of these lengthy delays that have affected distribution times across the nation.”
“There’s also substantial delivery costs when it comes to shipping orders from VIC to WA,” said Stephen. “We have seen a significant reduction in freight costs since we’ve opened our Perth warehouse, but most importantly our customers are able to have their services up and running much faster,” said Stephen.
