Aussie Broadband’s focus on ‘building better communities’

Media Release | Saturday 7 Oct 2017 | 1 min read

A unique training program developed between Gippsland Employment Skills Training (GEST) and Aussie Broadband is opening up work opportunities for unemployed people in the Latrobe Valley.

The four-week pre-employment course developed by non-profit GEST offers people essential skills to return to the workplace.

“With Aussie broadband and GEST, we developed a programme to support learners to be educated on what call centres provide or need in this area,” said GEST trainer Jen McCafferty

“Latrobe Valley has a number of call centres and there was a high demand for new staff for these places.

“We have a passion and commitment along with ability to support the changes required for people to be successful in gaining employment.”

Kirralee Richardson, People and Culture Manager, Aussie Broadband said the company has already had 27 placements.

“GEST runs the course, and then Aussie Broadband hosts them on a placement. If candidates have a successful placement, they’re bookmarked for an interview at the end of the 4 weeks.”

So far the company has hired 10 people through the course, all of whom are still employed by Aussie Broadband.  The first employee started in January this year.

It’s been so successful, they’re hoping to roll out the course to Aussie Broadband’s new call centre based in the outer South East of Melbourne at Lynbrook.
