Frequently Asked Questions about our mobile plans

What is 5G?

5G is the fifth generation of wireless mobile networks. It is designed to deliver higher data speeds and bandwidths more reliably than past network iterations. While the predicted capabilities of 5G are certainly impressive – 1 Gbps speeds are expected to be the norm once it reaches its peak – the network is only available in a handful of locations across Australia at the moment, and users must have 5G-compatible devices.

Is 5G dangerous?

While there has been a lot of negative publicity clouding the technology, one of the main concerns expressed has been that 5G could cause cancer. We don’t believe 5G causes cancer, and neither does the World Health Organization – we’ll explain why.

Like other mobile phones, 5G handsets rely on high-frequency radio waves. While the speeds at which 5G operates are fast for radio waves – much faster than previous mobile network generations, such as 3G or 4G – 5G frequencies are still much slower than other, high frequency waves, such as visible or ultraviolet (UV) light.

UV light is the weakest form of carcinogenic radiation – carcinogenic means it has the potential to cause cancer.

To date, scientists have never been able to prove that radiation below UV on the electromagnetic spectrum is carcinogenic. The frequency that 5G operates on is well below UV light on the electromagnetic spectrum, meaning it is also well below the frequency levels understood to be carcinogenic.

What is the difference between 4G and 5G?

Like 4G, 5G operates on high frequency radio waves. However, the speeds that 5G operates at are significantly higher than 4G.

5G technology has been touted as ‘revolutionary’ with the potential to provide the speeds and latency required to power futuristic technologies such as self driving cars or remote surgery. However, the technology has certainly not been developed to that point yet – it’s still very early days.

At this point in time, the main differences between the 4G and 5G networks from a user perspective are faster speeds, lower latency and improved reliability. Users could also expect lower congestion on the 5G network, as it can support more users simultaneously than the 4G network.

What is a SIM-only plan?

A SIM-only plan means you are only paying for a SIM and the associated plan – you are not paying for a handset. This leads to greater flexibility, as you can insert the SIM card into any compatible handset of your choosing, or switch between handsets as needed.

The other advantage of Aussie Broadband’s SIM-only plans is that you are not locked into a lengthy contract – month-to-month contracts give you the flexibility to adapt or scale your mobile services as your business grows.

Which mobile plan is best for my business?

Here at Aussie, we know that businesses need flexible telco services that are easy to scale or alter as the company grows and changes. That’s why we offer flexible SIM-only plans and bundled plans that come with handsets.

If your staff have existing handsets that they like using, SIM-only plans may be the best option for your business. However, if your existing handsets are outdated or you don’t have enough handsets to go around, we have a great range of handsets to choose from that you can bundle with a plan.

If you have any further questions, speak to one of our expert team today on 1300 480 905.

What is a mobile broadband plan?

Mobile broadband is an alternative to fixed-line broadband connectivity. Like it’s name suggests, it operates over the mobile network. Generally, mobile broadband requires a modem and a SIM card.

Here at Aussie Broadband, we offer businesses the flexibility to purchase SIM-only mobile broadband plans – you can insert your SIM into a modem or device of your choosing. With the flexibility of no lock-in contracts, our mobile broadband plans give your business the space to scale and grow.

What is data sharing?

Data sharing allows businesses to share data inclusions between multiple connected services or devices. If one of your staff members goes over their data limit while another staff member doesn’t use much data at all, you can share the second staff member’s existing data allowance with the first staff member.

Data sharing makes managing your business mobile fleet a breeze, and is also cost-effective.

What happens if I go over my plan’s included data?

If you go over the included data limit on your mobile plan, you can simply purchase additional data blocks – it’s that easy.

However, if you exceed your data limit and don’t purchase any new data blocks, the data on your mobile device will stop working until the next pay period.

How do I order a new SIM using MyAussie app?

Ordering your new SIM on the My Aussie App is simple. Click the ‘services’ button and then ‘Add new services’ in the centre of the screen. This will take you to page with a range of services to choose from. Click ‘mobile’ and follow the steps.

However, if you’d prefer not to use the MyAussie app, you can give our friendly, Australian-based customer service team a call on 1300 480 905.
