What is the difference between international roaming and international direct dialling?
Last Updated: Wednesday 27 May 2026
International mobile roaming (IMR) – or just international roaming – is the ability to make calls, send SMS’, and use data while outside of Australia. When you use international roaming, it uses a different data balance than your regular monthly data.
International direct dialling (IDD) is used to call international numbers from inside Australia. While our plans offer unlimited domestic calls and texts, calling international numbers comes with an additional cost per minute depending on the country you’re calling. Most of our mobile plans come with monthly IDD ‘credit’ that’s used before you receive any additional charges.
Both IDD and IMR need to be activated within your service to use. You can activate IDD by reaching out to our Australian-based team.
